DCPA: The Pioneer Association in
Down & Connor relies
on volunteers for a range of services from working in our office
to working directly with young people.
We welcome
your contribution, whether you have only a little time to spare,
or can commit to helping us on a regular basis. Click
here to download our application form, and return it to us at
the Good Shepherd Centre. We will ask
you for references and, where you want to work with children, we
will carry out a police check. You will also be asked to attend
a Child Protection training course.
Pioneer
Office
At the moment, we have 4 volunteers working in the Pioneer Office
in the Good Shepherd Centre, Ormeau Road, Belfast. The work involves
answering the telephone, taking orders for Pioneer
goods, word processing and helping with "post outs". The office
is co-ordinated by Anne McCann, who can be contacted on (028) 9049
2424.
Football
Teams
At present DCPA has two football teams
in the Down and Connor League, an under 12 and an under 13. Additional
help with the organisation of these teams would be appreciated.
We are currently looking for volunteers to work with managers, Martin
Curley and Jim Gribbon.
Friday Night
Club
This programme targets 11-14 year
old people. It aims to offer them an alternative to a Friday evening
of alcohol and drug abuse by providing them with opportunities to
engage in workshops such as arts and crafts, drama, and music. It
aims to encourage them to withstand the pressures of alcohol and
drug abuse by teaching them social skills. Hence there are workshops
in self-esteem, personal development, assertiveness, communication
and anger management. We have a panel of 23 volunteer coaches who
help run the programme.
Finally, we would like to recruit
a number of additional volunteer drivers.
